The outfits created for the Aire performance were developed over a four-month process, beginning with the "Clean Air" pieces. These garments were inspired by the elusive quality of air—ephemeral, light, and almost otherworldly—aiming to embody a being that is both delicate and vital. The design draws from the imagery of the archangels that watch over Mexico City, representing guardian spirits. There are four performers, four angels—referred to as "them"—each with wings that symbolize lungs and echo Aztec wings, blending cultural motifs and universal symbols of breath and protection.
Every element on these garments is intentional: poems about fresh air are written on the wings, and precious stones, crystals from chandeliers, and other materials associated with air quality are sewn in, emphasizing the prayer for cleaner air. The wings themselves serve both as a spiritual herald and a tribute to the importance of breath. The "smog" pieces are crafted from industrial denim tops, interventions with black fringe emerging from the pockets to symbolize smog and industrial pollution—creating a visual narrative of industry’s impact. Small charms and milagros, sourced across Mexico City, represent the countless people affected by pollution, while poems about smog are painted around the skirts. Every detail was carefully thought out to honor the collective prayer for cleaner, healthier air, blending cultural symbolism, environmental consciousness, and artistic intention into a unified expression.
