Portraits of My Girlfriends
YEAR
1999-2002
Beginning in 1999, this series is a playful exploration of identity, featuring my girlfriends as subjects. Almost all portraits were shot in my bathroom—limited by light and resources, but filled with spontaneity, kitsch, and whimsy. These images capture moments of intimacy, transformation, and friendship—raw and resourceful.
Unaware of artists like Cindy Sherman and David LaChapelle at the time, I followed my instinct, finding beauty in the imperfect and the accidental. Later, I saw how my work resonated with their exploration of performance and persona.
More than photographs, these are tender snapshots of a carefree chapter—celebrating play, femininity, and the endless possibilities of self-reinvention.
