Nephilas

Nephilas is a project I was involved in from its initial development, including work and documentation in San Luis Potosí, which can be viewed at www.nephilas.com. I later participated in the live performance held at my art space, Womb Mexico.

In the performance, my role was that of the veiled spider woman, who gathered the pain and suffering of the willing audience within a golden egg. Once the egg was filled, I navigated a labyrinth of eggs to release the shadow energies by breaking the egg with a howl into a glowing bowl of water.

"The poetics of the Nephilas is based
on ecofeminist theories by Donna Haraway,
ethnographic research on the Tarantella
by Ernesto de Martino, the psycho magic
of Alejandro Jodorowski, the theory
and practice surrounding dreams
in psychoanalysis, and the surrealistic vision
of Leonora Carrington.
Through the integration of these references,
artistic dynamics are generated during
the performance that encourage
the audience to immerse themselves in the
dream world and visualise their bite of life.
Every performance we create is unique;
stemming from the deep connection
we forge with the essence of the performance
venue – its distinctive features, ambiance,
and historical significance.
We draw inspiration from the socio-political
backdrop and our dynamic interaction
with all beings inhabiting its confines.
Through the artistry of dance, music,
movement, and poetry, we intricately
weave a narrative."
